to the people of boston and the people of massachusetts. after a vicious attack on their city, they responded with result and determination. they did their part as citizens and partners in this investigation. boston police and state police and local police across the commonwealth of massachusetts responded with professionalism and bravery over five long days. tonight, because of their determined efforts, we have closed an important chapter in this tragedy. obviously tonight there's still many unanswered questions. among them, why did young men who grew up and studied here as part of our community and our country resort to such violence? how did they plan and carry out these attacks and did they receive any help? one thing we do know is that

whatever hateful agenda drove these men to such heinous acts will not prevail. they have already failed. the people of boston refused to be intimidated. they failed because we will not waiver from the character and the compassion and the values that detype us as a country -- define us as a country, nor will we break the bonds that hold us together as americans. >> the nations and the family members of the suspect are looking for answers into the motives behind the attacks. the family of the wife of suspect number 1 released this statement today, quote, we cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. that statement continues in the

released and the two brothers drive to watertown. shortly after 1:00 police in watertown spot the car and a gun battle breaks out. 15 police officers are wounded, and one of them critically. suspect number 1 is injured and his brother escape by driving over him. at 1:35 a.m., tamerlan is pronounced dead. people are urged to lock their doors and stay inside. the red sox cancel their game and police conduct door to door searches. as night falls, their attention turns to a boat in a watertown backyard. reports of gun fire and confirmation that the week of

the 11-year-old boy who was injured in the boston marathon bombings on monday is steadily recovering, according to administrators at his school. in the last few days aaron underwent several surgeries and first lady michelle obama

deputies were told not to fire unless they saw him. instead, tear gas was used to try and coax him out of the cabin. flames broke out and one gunshot was heard and authorities believe it was him taking his own life. it was warmer out there away from the coastline. our inlands valleys were in the low 80s. in the south, 82 in sunnyville. closer to the coastline, temperatures were cooler thanks to the winds. we will see slightly stronger winds tomorrow. it will stay mild tonight. as we head into the weekend we will see warming away from the coastline, more 80-degree readings, and that will continue into monday but cooling into the rest of the next week. tomorrow morning, we will have fog near the coastline, but i
